Go-To Photography Spots In Durango, CO

Over the years, we’ve had the joy of discovering some incredible spots right here in our own backyard that offer the perfect backdrop for capturing genuine, heartfelt moments. Whether you're dreaming of golden fields, downtown charm, or a cozy wooded trail, I’m excited to share my go-to Durango locations that never fail to deliver stunning photos and unforgettable experiences.
Vallecito Reservoir
Vallecito is absolutely our favorite hidden gem in Durango. Super accessible, the mountains are stuning, and every season is beautiful! About a 30 minute drive from downtown Durango, north of Bayfield - but worth the views.
Falls Creek
Another great setting in Durango… this location has something to offer in every season with its open fields and red cliffs. Bonus: it’s SUPER accessible at only 15 minutes from downtown.
Haviland Lake
Haviland is only available in the summer season, but it offers unmatched mountain and lake views. This location is about 10 minutes from Purgatory!
Cascade
A beautiful spot just past Purgatory, this location is technically accessible year-round but we recommend summer months for the best scenery and access! Expansive, unobstructed mountain views and summer wildflowers are what makes this spot really stand out.
Andrews Lake
Andrews Lake is near Silverton - a bit of a drive from Durango up the Million Dollar Highway. This location is beautiful and easy to access, offering 360 degree mountain views in every direction.
River Walk, Hanging Bridge, Etc
A great in-town option that features the river and some of the unique architectural features of Durango!
Lion’s Den
Another great in-town option located at Fort Lewis College - the Lion’s Den offers a bird’s eye view of Durango as the backdrop for your photos!
Studio
Of course, if you want to ensure particular weather or lighting conditions, the studio is also available! Studio sessions can still be creative and fun, and create different vibes based on what you’re looking for!
